Driving on the Island
A few essentials to keep your trip smooth and safe.
Drive on the left
Traffic follows left-hand driving. Give yourself a few minutes at the start of each journey to settle in, especially at roundabouts.
Speed limits
30 km/h in towns, 60 km/h on rural roads, 90 km/h on the main expressway. Speed cameras are active on the expressway.
Rain season (June – November)
Afternoon showers are common. Roads can flood quickly in low-lying areas. Check the forecast before heading into the interior.
Road stops
Local rum shops double as rest stops with cold drinks and snacks. They are friendly, welcoming, and worth the pause.
